Complex dental work

Complex dental work involves restoring damaged teeth and gums using such treatments as crowns, bridges, implants, root canal treatment, correcting gum problems and wear cases.

Major or complex dental work can be hard to confront. Many people experience high anxiety at the thought of their next visit to the dentist. But the only real way to handle it is to take that first step and find out what is needed. Then each procedure is done one step at a time till completion.

We have a gentle touch when performing any procedure. From routine cleanings to more complex dental work, we maintain a calm and professional attitude to make you and your family feel comfortable.

Whether you are in need of simple cleaning or more complex dental work, you will always receive the best of care from our team of professionals.

Implants

Anyone who is missing one or more teeth, even at the back, due to injury or tooth decay may be a candidate for dental implants.

When a tooth is removed, the surrounding teeth begin to move or tilt, which in turn can lead to decay, gum disease, and jaw problems. There maybe a loss of muscle tone, which may result in the skin appearing ‘saggy’. Replacing the tooth into the bone with a dental implant allows the muscle to become stronger and the bone to revitalise. This allows the facial skin to expand, looking smoother.

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root, a metal rod – usually made from titanium – that has an internal screw or clip. It fits directly into your jawbone the same way that roots support natural teeth. Over several months, your jawbone will fuse with the titanium rod. Dentures, crowns or bridges can be attached to the implant to replace your missing teeth.

Having dental implants will require at least one minor operation. The first step involves placing small screw-like fixtures, which can be considered your new dental roots. The gum tissue is replaced over the implant after it has been positioned precisely into the bone. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and is generally not painful. The implant is then left to naturally bond to the bone for a period of three to six months. Once bone bonding is complete the joint between implant and bone is strong enough, the implant is uncovered in a second procedure and attachments made to the titanium screw that protrude slightly through the gum. The final treatment is the attachment of the visible tooth structure.

Full mouth rehabilitation

Patients who have many missing teeth or severe deterioration of most teeth may require a full mouth reconstruction using a combination of restorations, veneers, crowns, bridges, dental implants and/or partial dentures. The aim is to make the correct relation between gums, bones, muscles and teeth.

The mouth is a complex machine and without a proper bite, chewing can become impaired, teeth can be worn, the jaw and neck can become sore and even migraines can occur. By its very nature, full-mouth reconstruction can be extremely complex. Dental techniques and technologies have come a long way in the past 30 years and patients are often surprised by what can be done. Treatment is often a non-surgical, comprehensive approach to getting the upper and lower jaws in proper alignment, removing all decay, repairing all chipped, weakened, and broken teeth, and ultimately creating a healthy, attractive smile that will last for many years.

Full mouth rehabilitation corrects imperfections in bite position and creates a smile that is functional, comfortable and beautiful. Anyone with short, worn teeth or those that are chipped and broken throughout the mouth would be an excellent candidate.

Once this treatment is completed you can expect a mouth that looks great, feels comfortable, and gives you the confidence to smile. If you feel that your teeth or gums have been allowed to deteriorate or feel your mouth is in poor condition, a full-mouth reconstruction may be the appropriate solution.

Cosmetic dentistry

Cosmetic dental treatments use a variety of techniques to restore or improve the appearance of teeth, gums and/or bite. They can include teeth whitening, veneers, laminates, braces, gum reshaping, dentures, crowns and cosmetic bonding.

Orthodontic treatment is used to straighten or move your teeth to improve their appearance or function. It can also help to keep your teeth and gums healthy by spreading the pressure of your bite out evenly. Straight teeth are easier to clean and are less vulnerable to tooth decay and gum disease.

If you are unsure what will work best for you, please don’t hesitate to ask our professional and friendly staff, who will be very happy to advise.

Smile designing

A beautiful smile is more than just about looking good – it's about feeling good, too. With today's technological innovations in dentistry, our specialists significantly improve the attractiveness of your smile, with little or no discomfort. Cosmetic dentistry is no longer the province of models, actors and the rich.

Are you satisfied with your smile? If you answer yes to any of the following questions, it's likely you can benefit from cosmetic dentistry: Do you have any stained or discolored teeth or fillings? Are any of your teeth crowded, overlapping, or crooked? Are your gums red, swollen, receded, or bleeding? Are you missing any teeth or do you have large gaps between any of your teeth? Do any of your teeth have uneven shapes due to chips, fractures, or rough edges? Do your teeth seem out of proportion because they are uneven in length?

The teeth play a very important role in creating a perfect smile. It is necessary to have good set of teeth and for them to be in harmony with the face, the lip line, the curvature of the mouth, etc. When a person smiles, the front 6 to 10 teeth are seen in what is called as a “smile window”. For your smile to be appealing and aesthetic, the teeth have to be in the right proportion and correctly aligned. They also need to be of the right shape and colour in harmony with the rest of the face.

A wide range of techniques are available that can enhance almost any smile. Skillfully blending science and art, we can “sculpt” a more attractive smile for you.

Removal of wisdom teeth

Wisdom teeth are the last of the adult teeth that emerge from the gums in the late teens or early twenties, these teeth also known as the third molars. Sometimes they never develop in certain people, while in others up to four teeth are seen one at each end of the upper and lower gums.

Though wisdom teeth generally do not cause problems, sometimes they may not come through the gums properly when there is not enough space for them at the back of the mouth. As a result, they do not grow in a straight line and instead emerge at an angle to fill the available space. These are known as impacted wisdom teeth. Some people are vulnerable to swollen gums around the wisdom tooth, leading to stiffness and soreness of jaw; bad breath and a bad taste as a result of infection at the back of the mouth; pain due to swelling of the face because of infection and a higher risk of tooth decay or gum disease in other teeth.

Impacted wisdom teeth as well as wisdom teeth that have emerged only partially through the gum they will be difficult to clean, they are highly susceptible to dental problems. They need to be extracted only when the impacted teeth are shown to cause serious dental health issues and pain, such as infection; cysts; tooth decay or gum disease this is best evaluated with a visit with your dentist.

IV sedations

Despite the great technical advances that have been made in dentistry in recent years, many people still suffer anxiety and pain, and can’t bring themselves to seek regular dental treatment because of their fear.

IV sedation is a state-of-the-art technique which takes the fear out of dentistry and makes dental treatment a very pleasant experience. Whether you are having a filling, root canal or extraction, you can have this done and more than likely have no memory of it. IV sedation helps you to relax.

The technique involves injecting a small amount of sedative into a vein in the arm. The patient becomes very relaxed and drowsy and the dental treatment can be carried out quite comfortably. Local anaesthetic injections are necessary, but these may cause only minor discomfort.

Because of the forgetfulness produced by these sedative agents patients may think that they have been asleep for most of the treatment. In reality, you remain conscious throughout. You will also be able to understand and respond to requests from your dentist. However, you may not remember much (or anything at all) about what went on.

Because it takes 24 hours for the effects of the sedative to wear off, patients must be accompanied by an adult to drive them home afterwards.
